Soil Removal/Contaminated Media Accomplishments/Benefits :
|
RSI was awarded a multi-year contract for the excavation of PCB-contaminated soils located within several operating substations throughout the City of San Antonio, TX. During removal activities RSI was responsible for excavation and shoring activities, stormwater manage- ment, treatment of collected fluids prior to discharge, backfilling and site restoration. During soil removal activities many areas of the substations were energized to prevent loss of service to their customers. Removal activities are supervised by the City of San Antonio's on-site representative. Soil removal was completed in .5 foot lifts. In addition to the substation projects, RSI has been assigned the task of excavating petroleum contaminated soil at various city owned power generating plants. Excavation activities included removing contaminated soils adjacent to high pressure gas and fuel oil distribution lines as well as electrical distribution corridors. PCB Contamination Demolition
RSI was selected as the contractor to prepare work plans and implement closure of two PCB storage units for a client in Wisconsin. The work plans included devising a sampling plan in accordance with 40 CFR Part 761 regulations to allow a large tank to be recycled as scrap metal in lieu of being disposed offsite as a TSCA waste. The sampling plan included gridding the walls of the tank into section and sampling sections identified by random number generation. The work plans were submitted to EPA in March of 2001. Approval was received the following month. RSI completed the PCB sediment / waste removal, decontamination and sampling and analysis over the next several months. Upon completion of the project, a final report was prepared and submitted to EPA. | |
