Onsite Landfills Accomplishments/Benefits :
|
RSI was responsible for the excavation, transportation and disposal of approximately 73,000 cubic yards of lead and hydrocarbon-contaminated soil from within a permitted landfill located on the Alamodome property in San Antonio, TX. Excavated soils were transported to a local Subtitle D landfill. After the confirmation samples confirmed that the desired cleanup level had been achieved, backfilling activities commenced. During backfilling activities RSI received a change order to complete construction activities of a new parking lot. From December 28, 1995, to February 11, 1996, RSI moved an additional 45,000 cubic yards of backfill materials and placed a six-inch gravel base with a 14” asphaltic base cover on top of the former landfill. It was imperative that the construction schedule be maintained so that the City would have an additional 4,000 parking spaces for the 1996 NBA All-Star game. This project was very controversial because many of the local residents were opposed to the former landfill being located within their neighborhood. | |
